The alien - L'alieno

¹ Maybe I'm one of those who shouldn't come back here, but here I am again and in flesh and blood. I confess that I feel as if I were an alien and, who knows, maybe I really am. Everything seems very strange and very different compared to the last time I was here. Every day I come across young people who feel old and old people who behave like children, as well as newborns who want to return to their mothers' wombs, either because of insecurity or fear of tomorrow. Where are my brother Francis of Assisi and my sister Joan of Arc? I search for them incessantly but I can't find them anywhere. I'm confused and scared, but once I'm here, here I must stay.

² Forse io sono uno di quelli che non dovrebbero tornare qui, ma eccomi di nuovo qui ed appunto in carne e ossa. Confesso che mi sento un alieno e, chissà, forse lo sono davvero. Tutto sembra molto strano e molto diverso rispetto all'ultima volta che sono stato qui. Ogni giorno mi imbatto in giovani che si sentono vecchi e vecchi che si comportano come fanciulli, così come in neonati che vogliono tornare nel grembo materno, sia per insicurezza che per paura del domani. Dove sono mio fratello Francesco d'Assisi e mia sorella Giovanna d'Arco? Li cerco incessantemente ma non li trovo da nessuna parte. Sono confuso e spaventato, ma una volta che sono qui, qui devo restare.
